Lot 76
DYNASTS OF LYCIA. Ddenewele, circa 420/10-400 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 4.24 g, 3 h), Xanthos oder Tlos (?), circa 410-400. Bearded head of Ddenewele to right, wearing kyrbasia. Rev. ๐Š…๐Š…๐Šš๐Š๐Š๐Š‡๐Š Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet; all within circular incuse. Falghera -. Hurter, Tissaphernes 12 var. (same obverse die, but differing reverse). Mรผseler -, cf. VI, 73 (differing symbol and legend). SNG Copenhagen -, cf. 26 (differing symbol and legend). SNG Copenhagen Supp. -. Winzer -. Very rare, and with a fine style portrait. Slightly granular and minor marks, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This piece was struck from the same obverse die as Peus 428 (2021), 298, and Hurter, Tissaphernes 12. In those examples, however, a symbol appears before the portrait of Ddenewele, which is lacking on our die. The symbol was evidently added to the die at a later stage.
